"Writing is a gesture of self- expression and a child has the right to be able to do it slowly.”

Scrittura Corsiva

Monica Dengo is the person behind www.scritturacorsiva.it. The starting idea was hers and she produced all the designs. The site represents the core of years of teaching handwriting to adults and children. It began to take shape, especially after her pilot project to introduce modern, Italic-style handwriting at an elementary and middle school, the Istituto Comprensivo di Terranuova Bracciolini, near Arezzo in Tuscany, Italy.

Calligrapher, designer and artist, Monica Dengo was born in Italy in 1966. From 1993 to 2003 she lived and studied in San Francisco, California. She has taught in many countries, including the United States, Japan, France, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland.  She currently organizes workshops in different locations in Italy, including at the Fondazione dei Musei Civici Veneziani, the Centro Internazionale Arti Calligrafiche in Arezzo and the Istituto Comprensivo di Terranuova Bracciolini also in Arezzo. It was because of concern for her sons, Enrico and Pierpaolo that she felt drawn to the world of the Italian public schools where she would start her project to teach Italic-style handwriting to elementary schoolchildren.
